Grand Canyon Rangers Operations Building & Lookout
Location: Grand Canyon South Rim, AZ
Client: National Park Service
Duration: 8 months
Contract Value: $2.4 million
The Grand Canyon Rangers Operations Building and Residence is a national historic landmark built in 1929 with Kaibab limestone, battered rubble piers, peeled wood columns and bracketed eaves. The CWC team was selected by the National Park Service, using value-based selection, to fully renovate and restore the building.
Work included demolition, framing, timber restructuring, reglazing, mechanical, electrical, roofing, parking area, and historic fabric restoration, with the CWC team self-performing carpentry, site concrete and heavy timber construction. Materials and subcontractors were mobilized to the remote site from Flagstaff, Arizona and southern Utah.
